Intelligentsia outgrows 20oz

The Chicago Tribune reports that coffee roaster Intelligentsia will no longer be offering 20oz cups.

“Drinking our coffee is not like drinking jug wine,” said Intelligentsia Coffee founder and Chief Executive Doug Zell on Tuesday. “We’re focused on intensity of flavors and providing coffee in the way it tastes best. And it’s not in that size.”

I respect this choice. They are prioritizing quality over quantity–their own expertise over what the frequently-naive customer asks for. This is a move that shows integrity.

I would love to kill the “mondo” size in my place of employment. Mondo skim vanilla latte…. so fucking disgusting.

how about the quality and integrity of drinking coffee out of something other than a paper cup? no, wait, i can just buy two 12-oz paper cups, use approximately three times the amount of paper, and have even more coffee than the traditional gigantic 20-oz.

sorry. i shouldn’t post on your blog when i’ve only had half a cup of coffee….

    haha

to-go cups should become a thing of the past; bring your own container, or sit a while and drink out of ceramic

that would be a bold move

A step in the right direction. It’s quite possible that this is the beginning of the end of the paper cup of espresso-based coffee drinks. Mind you, as recently as ten years ago a coffee shop was not the hip, barista-attended, be-couched lounge of our day but rather the egg-slinging, sandwich-making “third place” of the “Seinfeld” set, and all attentive TV watchers of the nineties will recall that George and Jerry always got their fix from ceramic.

While Starbucks popularized the paper-cup-of-coffee, it is unlikely that the mermaid’s demise will coincide with that of the concept, since it was not her invention. Instead, it’s more likely that we will return to a pre-venti state when the paper you drink coffee out of has playing cards printed on it. That’s what I’m looking forward to.

You guys still use paper cups? I’ve always drunk my coffee out of a series of nested harmonically-tuned toroidal giga-Oerstad EM fields; not only does it keep the coffee fresh, it’ll align the nuclear magnetization of every hydrogen atom in your body. You might not want to try it if you have any piercings, though.
