Budweiser Sells Out

The BBC reports that Anheuser-Busch has sold out to Belgium-based InBev.

Oh, Budweiser. You were too expensive, your fans were annoying, and your advertisements were so sexist–but I’ll be damned if you weren’t an American icon.

The irony tastes better than you ever did.

I hear irony can add a nice, if not subtle, flavor, so maybe after this Bud will taste like something other than day-old pee.

Budweiser was the american icon………american as it gets.
But more foreign investors chipping away at the United States.
    Screw you Budweiser!

    “america”
why is it ok to say “america” when one means “the united states of” and “america” is really the bulk of the western hemisphere?

that’s a pet peeve of mine.

the other question is: isn’t really just perfectly “american” to sell to the highest bidder? isn’tt that what capitalism is all about? as far as i can tell, budweiser is simply staying true to form. but i’ll be sad when my favorite hipster microbrews leave town, too, i guess.

You’re right, it is staying true to form. That’s what’s so delightful about it, because the whole American icon thing was just a bunch of bullshit manipulation from the start, and there’s no hiding that now.

In Japanese, the word for United States is “amerika” like “ah-meh-ree-ka.” That shit is pretty well entrenched these days. Not that this makes it okay. Do Ecuadorians consider themselves Americans? Just curious.

I always looked at the A/B Clydesdale team as being iconic, not so much Budweiser because I always thought it nasty tasting. It is ironic when capitalism reigns true and the almighty dollar rules. USA = Sell Out to the highest bidder these days it seems. It will be interesting to see who owns us some day. Hmmm makes you wonder doesn’t it. I love my country and The Constitution but I fear our own greedy ways will be our undoing some day.

As for A/B I always thought they were a con job anyways. Bud has never been a fav of mine and when they came out with this born on date… it was just another way for them to get us to drink green beer. We didn’t have to stop into a bar to drink a green draught beer. They started bottling it for us. It was “so nice” of them to sell us on the born on date so we’d know that we were drinking the freshest green Budweiser they could possibly pump out and package.
