I have been a John Carpenter fan since I got to watch a midnight showing of The Thing at a local theater back in Madison. The other night I returned home, exhausted from working and biking all day, to find one of my roommates watching They Live. The first thing I saw was a paranoid construction worker beating up two police offers because when he looked through his magic sunglasses they appeared as zombies (actually aliens, I was soon to discover). This was enough to hold my interest for five more minutes which was enough to immerse me completely. If, this Sunday, you find yourself lazing around the house, go buy/borrow/steal this flick and check it out. It’s amusing enough as an action/thriller, but its over-the-top and completely transparent allegory is wildly amusing and even a little thought provoking.
