Me
I am another faceless 20-something. I live in San Francisco. I have a bachelor’s degree and an aversion to careers. I—like you—am a lost child, with no place in this society. I will neither submit nor sell out, and so I built my house in limbo. I am a Buddhist, an anarchist, and a postmodernist. I write to find traction in these days that slip by, to constantly be learning, and to keep my theoretical brain grounded. I believe we are the sole architects of our future; that this senseless society need not be so. I write to explore possibility, and to network with those who would seek more. You will learn far more about me from reading my posts than I could ever offer in a paragraph of self-description.
The name
Jack Valentine is the pseudonym I have used for several years. “Jack” is an everyman’s name, simple and without pretense. It is also an homage to Fight Club, as the nameless narrator in the film version is referred to in the script as Jack. “Valentine” comes from Valentine Michael Smith, the main character of Stranger in a Strange Land. Both books present challenges to our thinking and force us to imagine new possibilities. I strive to do the same.
The blog
See my first post for an introduction to this blog. It is essentially an intellectual and creative free-space to reflect on experiences and explore ideas.
Special thanks to Jacob for help with all things site related, and to Andrew for designing the banner image.
